Super Mario World became the best selling game for Nintendo after a whopping 20 million copies were sold worldwide! It is an authentic platform game and will be treasured by many gaming fans for years to come.
As with many other Mario games the plot takes on a similar pattern. Mario has to rescue the Princess from the claws of the evil Bowser.
Super Mario World has been re-released on 2 occasions, once for the Game Boy Advance and secondly and most recent for the Nintendo Wii in 2007. The game play and the original game make up were not changed.
Super Mario World's game play involves a basic platform side scrolling series of 72 levels across seven worlds, these worlds are Yoshi's Island, Donut Plains, Vanilla Dome, Twin Bridges Area, Forest of Illusion, Chocolate Island and the Valley of Bowser. There are also two secret worlds, Star World and Special Zone.
Some neat features in Super Mario World which were previously unseen in its predecessors include enhanced graphics on all the characters, new moves for Mario including Spin Jump, Throw Items and Cape Feather to enable Mario to fly and glide to the ground. Super Mario World also introduced Yoshi to the series of characters, a small dinosaur that Mario can ride. The player could control Yoshi to hold and spit a koopa shell out at enemies.
Mario can also collect mushrooms to power up and grow larger. This in turn grants him greater survivability being able to take 2 hits before he dies instead of 1.
A 2 player option is also available where a second player can control Luigi, both players can exchange lives in order to improve survivability.
Super Mario World received an average of 97% from game review magazines, an incredible rating!
A sequel to the game was released in 1995 called Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
