About The Game
Tetris, the extremely popular falling block puzzle game was originally designed by Alexey Pajitnov in June 1985. His inspiration for creating the video game was 'Pentominoes' ? 12 x 5 square block shapes, formed and named after Latin alphabet letters.
The game play for Tetris is simple, shapes of four blocks each fall down the screen. Your job is to manipulate those blocks in a set number of ways by rotating them at a 90 degree angle to form perfect horizontal lines and a complete large block at the bottom of the screen. As the game play advances the blocks fall at a faster rate and it becomes more demanding on your reflexes and vision to place the blocks in the correct space and in the correct shape. The game play ends when the screen is overloaded with blocks and there is no room left to place any more.
There are 7 different colours of blocks, these colours bare no relevance to the game but do vary by video game platform.
The games popularity was first experienced by video game fans in Moscow, Russia and then its popularity spread to Budapest in Hungary. It was released a year later in the US by IBM on PC and became an instant and massive hit with US gamers.
By 1989 12 different video game companies owned rights for distribution, but Nintendo's Gameboy version was arguably the most popular version of Tetris ever made. With the game being so popular and profitable, Tetris was involved in a numerous amount of lawsuits over copyright and distribution rights.
However game lovers will care little regarding its financial history and will still hold fond memories of many hours spent playing the game.
